Ear Saga Continues
I have no idea why we thought we were moving onto a better place... a place that didn't include fluid in my children's ears. But nooooooooo.
We had an ENT appointment Friday afternoon for Spencer and Abby.
Going into it we suspected that Abby had fluid in her right ear. Since she lost the tube in that ear we've been battling fluid build up. Just a few weeks ago the school’s audiologist did a tympanogram and it came back fairly flat, not good. We’ve been trying different things, with great resistance, to open up the eustation tube. Figuring that we haven’t made progress we are taking it to the next level. So we were prepared for that and were seeking advice on how to clear it up. They were discussing doing an x-ray to help them evaluate what is going on. First though we are going to try other ways of clearing her eustation tube. Hopefully this new game plan works. We go back in 2-3 weeks to see if we are making any improvement.
Spencer's appointment was supposed to be a simple pre-op follow up where we were supposed to hear that everything looked wonderful. As you may have guessed, that is not what we heard. The tube in his right ear is blocked and non-functioning. Though, we do know that it was clear and functioning 2 weeks ago when we were at the Peds office. But on Friday, not so much. I'm sure his croup wasn't helpful along with the fact that he is currently cutting 4 teeth. The ENT's PA was evaluating him prior to the ENT coming in and he was looking for cues as to what was going on. He peaked in his mouth and started counting... 1, 2, oh wow 3, oh my 4 teeth coming in. We are in another 2-3 week waiting game with him. Hopefully these drops do the trick and that tube returns to functioning.
The upside?? The upside is that we can make a follow up appointment for the both of them at the same time, so only one trip.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I had hoped this was moving quickly behind you all. Here's hoping they are both clear at the next visit.
Oh poor sweeties!!!! Ironically another friend whose daughter got tubes right around the same time as Spencer, one of hers is totally scabbed over now and she's also doing the drops.
I hope that both Abby and Spencer can catch a break. Hugs!!!!
