Ellie's First Lost Tooth
It happened!
Abby's prediction was right on, a tooth would be lost on the 2nd day of 1st grade. It just didn't happen to her. She's really very much okay with that. She has two very loose teeth and if she'd just let me pull either of them she could have lost a tooth yesterday as well. She'd rather hold onto them a bit longer!
So Ellie has been a wiggling machine with this tooth. A friend of theirs was over and had dinner with us last night. She commented that Ellie was always (in just 2 days - LOL) wiggling her tooth in class. And that is why it fell out!
Carie and I were getting dinner ready. Lexy had run home to see if would be okay if she had dinner with us. The girls were anxiously waiting out front to see if she would be coming back or not. Ellie was snacking on a piece of cantaloupe and then at 6:05 we heard her burst through the front door screaming with excitement that her tooth had fallen out. It had blood on it so she had to go in the bathroom to wash it off. It was fascinating to see just how okay she was with the blood on the tooth.
The rest of the night was spent talking about teeth, admiring her lost tooth, and talking about their day at school. This is just such a different experience than last year. They are growing up so much!

The Tooth Fairy Box...
The story with the Tooth Fairy box is that a friend of ours had this brilliant idea to make these special boxes. As we were discussing what we would do in our own house, it seemed like a fun idea to make a special box for the Tooth Fairy. I asked our friend if she would mind if we stole her brilliant idea, to which she replied of course not! So off to the store we went to have the girls pick out their materials to decorate their own special boxes.
This is what Ellie chose! The inside is currently covered in hot pink glitter (visible in the photo with the tooth). We have thoughts that we'll add something more to the inside (we have the materials), but Ellie likes it how it is at the moment. So we'll see. Abby's Tooth Fairy box will be ready when she is ready. We had planned to make Spencer's now as well, since we were in the mode. But it was really cool to have Abby & Ellie pick out their own designs, things that really interested them. So now I'm wondering if we wait for his day to come to do the same.
Ellie isn't ready for the Tooth Fairy to come; she would like to admire her tooth for a bit longer. So we've got a bit more time to firm up our execution and ritual of the Tooth Fairy!

I LOVE this little box idea & feel the need to have one lined up for when M starts losing teeth. What did you use to cover the box?
Of course, I'm not sure which one of us is going to have the greater freakouts over loose teeth. Teeth give me the willies and my students are wise to that. They love to wiggle and tug at their loose molars during class.

That's so exciting! I love the idea of making their own Tooth Fairy boxes.
