Happy Easter
Our Easter celebrations began Saturday morning. We had been looking forward to participating in Easter activities (face painting, train rides, animals, bounce house, egg hunt, and who knows what else) at Grandpa & Grandma's Church, but the weather was less than friendly so we opted to execute plan B. We met Grandma, Alex & Haleigh at the Children's Museum. The kids’ eyes lit up when they heard where we were going. It sure sounded much more appealing than being in the freezing cold and gusty wind. We hit a new record low this weekend with temps falling to 16 degrees!
That Children's Museum is incredible and we have so much fun every time we go. I’m always pleased with their staff and their involvement in activities. It is worth the drive! It turned out to be another excellent morning at the Children’s Museum. This particular morning they had a special performance from MADCAP on the kid’s stage. The puppet show was incredible! I probably enjoyed it as much as the kids did.
After a fun filled morning, we walked to a nearby restaurant to meet Grandpa, Uncle Chris & Aunt Karen for lunch. Then we were off to Grandpa & Grandma's house for naps and further Easter activities. While Spencer was napping the girls got to help Grandma go through her jewelry box. They had a blast and they each ended up with a pile of loot to take home. Spencer graced us with an incredible nap and woke just in time for Easter baskets and egg hunt. The kids were quite excited with all the stuff Grandpa, Grandma & Great Grandma gave them for Easter.
The egg hunt went exceptionally well and all the kids had a great time. We then got them to hold off on opening all the eggs until after supper. That went over better than I expected it too! Everyone got a bit of food in them and then the egg counting and opening began, followed by sugar highs.
It was a late night and we were all exhausted. We got home and got the kids transferred to their beds and then Carie and I played the Easter Bunny, or “Rabbip” as Spencer would say. We pulled together all the loot that we had accumulated and chose what was going in the baskets and what was going back into hiding. Of course we went overboard, but I was pleased with the outcome! We arranged all their baskets and put them at their seats at the kitchen table along with our breakfast supplies for the next morning. Then we called it a night!
Sunday morning the kids woke and Spencer was the first one downstairs with Abby & Ellie not far behind. His first discovery was the pinwheels and he tried taking them out of all the baskets. They all were so excited about the pinwheels that I think we could have just had those and nothing else. After all the basket excitement we tried to get food into their tummies. We had some mini cinnamon rolls that we thought would go over well as a breakfast treat.
We would have loved to attend Church service, at our Church, this fine Easter morning. But it didn’t seem to be in the cards. So many things are a priority to us; Church, our immediate family, and our extended family. It felt impossible to make everything happen while tending to our kids needs and our family needs. I’m glad we had an opportunity to participate in services leading up to this very special day.
In the recent weeks as we were evaluating our options and our priorities, I recall Carie commenting about rushing here and rushing there, etc… I recall Abby telling us that it was not okay to run in Church. Oh how right she is!
So after our family time over breakfast, we got cleaned up and loaded up to head to Grandpa & Yia Yia's to celebrate Easter with Mommy's family. We had a nice day. We began with a short time of reflection followed by lunch which was excellent, as usual. The kids then thoroughly enjoyed their Easter baskets from Grandpa & Yia Yia and stuffed animal from Aunt Betsie & Uncle Mark. They had a great time hunting the dozens of colored eggs that we brought. Ellie was slowed down a bit because she was looking for the eggs with her name on it. Spencer then took a decent nap; unfortunately he could have used a longer one. Various games were played. Ellie enjoyed playing UNO with Grandpa, Mommy & I. Abby enjoyed hanging out with Yia Yia who was playing Cranium. Then we played Domino's and some cribbage. I think Ellie won most of the Domino’s rounds.
As tradition, it seems, we enjoyed delicious sandwiches from leftover lunch fixings, followed by more relaxing. We left near the bedtime hour hoping we'd have three sleeping children early in our travels. It looked like that was going to be a bust, but thankfully two of them fell asleep as we were pulling into town and transitioned well to bed with a good night of sleep.
Today we are getting back into the groove. The girls returned to school, with much excitement! The plan is to have a great, low key night with a reasonable bed-time hour. Everyone could use it.
