Abby...

Ever since that darn book about monsters we've been battling scary stuff at bedtime. It isn't necessarily "monsters" that we are scared of. That just seems to have opened the door for a myriad of other things to suddenly appear scary.

For instance, she's been talking about "black and red guys" that scare her. It took us a bit to associate the "black and red guys" to the Candy Land movie... they are animated licorice bites in the movie. She's also been scared of shadows, but insists on having the bathroom light on which creates the shadows. They love the shadows that are outside, but not inside. She talks about people stealing her good dreams. She's had concerns about people coming into our house, coming through her bedroom window, etc...

I think as we continue to talk about all of this stuff it may be settling down. Some of it is easier to tackle while other stuff makes us scared for her. I know Ellie is hoping it all settles down soon. Each night Abby needs Ellie to sleep with her. Some nights Abby chooses to go to Ellie's bed and some nights Abby wants Ellie to come over to her bed. Poor Ellie doesn't always want to, and we let it be up to Ellie as to what she wants to do. Last night I think Ellie finally decided it would be better to go sleep with Abby just so Abby would stop talking and go to sleep!

Then today Abby seems to have a "tummy bug". She's appearing fine and acting fine, except when she's got to run to the bathroom and can't quite make it. Something just isn't setting quite right. So Carie, in her efforts to comfort Abby, mentions that she must have a tummy bug.

Except... Earlier in the day the girls caught a "pet" fly in their bug jar and named her Boingy. And so now Abby is all freaked out that she ate a bug in her lunch resulting in the tummy bug.

Poor Abby. I think this is such a hard age where they're beginning to understand enough to get scared about things that might not have scared them before. Brendan has been going through a phase where he's scared of "losing" me and this really shows up at bedtime where he doesn't want me to leave at all.

I hope this continues to settle down a bit for Abby. Hugs to her!!
