15 Months - The Story
The boy turned 15 months old last week! He continues to change and grow into a little boy right before our very eyes.
The 15 month stats:
Weight: 29lbs 3oz (which is now on the chart at 95%)
Height: 34 1/4" long (continues to be way off the charts)
(only 6" shorter than Ellie & 4 3/4" shorter than Abby)
Head: 50cm
Teeth: 8 full teeth (upper/lower central & lateral incisors)
Parts of all 4 first molars have made an appearance.
The molars are such big teeth that it is only fitting
that they provide the greatest amount of pain for the
longest amount of time.
This boy is such a character and a true joy to be with. That is of course when he's not grunting and lunging at things that he thinks he wants/needs. He is a boy who definitely knows what he wants and it is best to not get in his way!
He is a resourceful little bugger! Recently he decided that he wanted water IN a water bottle. So of course he decided to fill it himself by first going to the dog dish. Mommy ruined that plan by moving the water dish. He immediately went for the bathroom and was caught attempting to fill his water bottle via the toilet. It won't be long before he figures out that water comes from the fridge door.
Our Ped commented yesterday (as she has in the past) that he is the most cooperative 15 month old in the State. I replied that this is the only place he sits still and we should rejoice in that.
Everything from head to toe checked out wonderfully with no concerns present. Her usual routine included checking his reflex with the reflex hammer. After she was done and had set the reflex hammer down on the table, Spencer grabbed it and tried checking his own reflex. He had excellent aim! We also talked about his food allergies, which are pretty minor, and have agreed that we won't pursue testing at this time. We'll continue to avoid the items that seem to trigger a reaction and be cautious about other similar items. We then talked about his recurrent high fevers over the past three weeks. We held off on shots to avoid creating a reason for any fever to come about. If he spikes a fever in the near future, we have a plan. Who knows whether or not anything will come of it. We hope not. But our Ped agrees that a recurrent fever of 103-104 is caused by something more than teething and if it would be a fever here and a fever there that would be different as well.
In the past month he has gone through an incredible language explosion. He went from having some words to have a lot of words. We finally started keeping track (outside of our brain) and have come up with 35-40 words that are fairly understandable. We can understand quite a bit of what he says but we're supposed to, we are the Mommy & Momma. At his well check we were reading a book when the Ped came into the room and Spencer was just pointing out a ball in the book and said ball. The Ped caught on and totally knew what he was talking about. YAY!
Some of his favorite and frequent words are Momma, AbbyEllie or EllieAbby (always said together), Ball, Dog, Book, and Eat. Oh, and lets not forget Dora and the map song. Clearly the boy has four year old sisters! Our lives would be so much easier if he would give in and say cup or drink or anything to do with wanting a cup of liquid. It would also be great if he would say dip! Though recently he decided that saying ketchup would be okay, so I don't think my requests are that far out of line. Yes, the boy can say 35-40 words and none of them are Mommy. Though I'm almost convinced that he is using Momma for both of us and he's just a bit more excited with his "Momma" at the end of the day when I come home. I'm not sure that Carie has bought into that theory just yet.
He is still active as ever, except when sitting on the exam table at the Peds office. It feels nearly impossible to keep up with the boy. He climbs everything! He loves to play outside, however his idea of a good time is constantly running for the street, throwing balls into the street, or pushing his cars into the street. Basically the street seems fun. Probably because we don't allow playing in the street?!?!
Spencer has really taken to books recently. He's shown interest in the past but he would never sit still long enough to look at more than a page. He still prefers to be in control of the book at all times, but he'll sit and flip through it at his pace and add his own commentary. Getting a word in edgewise is often challenging, but sometimes we are successful.
He's a great sleeper, a great eater, and an all around great boy!
