Top Half & Bottom Half
Seems as if Spencer's developmental abilities can be broken down to the top half and the bottom half of his body.
See, the boy has been trying to crawl for weeks... literally. We really thought he'd be on the move in full force by now. Instead we have been graced with a few more weeks of limited mobility. While he's waiting to complete the crawling skill, he's mastered sitting and is very close to getting into a sitting position on his own.
The bottom half of his body seems to have the crawling and sitting skills mastered. His legs go and go and go. He rocks back and forth all day long. He lunges forward, like come on body... let's go! When he's really ready to go he ends up on his tiptoes, in push up mode. It is amazing! He's nearly getting himself to a sitting position. He's got all the leg movements figured out, but...
Then there's the top half of his body. His legs are going but they are waiting for his hands to do something, but they remain firmly planted. They are stuck in the mud! If he could only reach out and get those arms moving, he'd be set. But alas, he waits until his belly is firmly planted on the ground before extending those arms to grab whatever is in his sights. He just needs the oomph from the top half to complete the skill of getting to that sitting position.
His current mode of transportation... spin the baby on the belly. He can complete a 360 circle in no time; all he needs is his belly and his toes.
Come on arms, work with the boy and make him happy! Though we moms' do appreciate the time you are taking to fully assess your role in these matters.
