We've Got The Itch!
Well, we've had the itch but have been rather successfully ignoring it... until now. A few key events have sent us into massive and compulsive house shopping mode.
A few relevant events...
1) Our time-frame is creeping up on us... we'd like to either be moved or know where we are moving to before the girls' start kindergarten (Aug, 07).
2) We are in the middle of a 3-year ARM on our existing house and are willing to take a minor hit in interest rates but don't want to forever ride the ARM or re-finance on this house.
3) Our neighbor friends have just built a new house... it is nice and new and very appealing. They have been gently nudging us and we have been resisting... until now. Though, unfortunately I don't see us living right next door again. But, we may live closer again. It really depends on what we find out about school districts.
4) Carie’s most recent signing was with a couple where the wife sells new homes, and just happened to sell our friends their home, and the signing occurred at her place of work... which meant that Carie toured the model homes and got infected with the fever.
5) Spencer fell asleep in the van while running errands on Saturday which prompted us to drive aimlessly... ending up at model homes.
6) Avoiding cleaning our own home on Sunday, we chose to exit the house and check out more builders and gawk at all the things that we would love to have in our new home.
It was so fun to tour model homes. We had forgotten how long it had been since we'd done this. We used to love to just randomly look at homes for "fun".
Unfortunately... or hopefully, some how, fortunately... we have found a floor plan that we have fallen in love with. At this point, we believe it will be out of our price range. Though in reality we really don't even know what our price range is. HA! Carie (and I) love it so much that Carie took the long way home from dropping the girls' off at school this morning so she could drive by "the" house in a different sub-division.
The kids' had a great time as well. Before leaving the house on Sunday we gave them some options on what we could do with the rest of our day... clean, play outside, go shopping, go look at houses. They totally jumped at the chance! They loved going in and out of all the houses. They were picking out rooms. They talked the agents ears off which gave us time to just look without being asked a million questions.
The funniest thing (to me, probably not to an agent showing a house) was when, out of the blue, we heard the trickling sound of potty. The girls' in their pottying independence took it upon themselves to go potty in a random bathroom that really shouldn't have been used. This happened a couple of times... Ellie in one house and Abby in another. Though, Abby's experience was a bit messier. We figured out what she was doing when she announced that she had gone poopy. Thankfully we had supplies in the van to clean everyone and everything up!

oh man don't I know it...
I *just* refied our house... to get out of an ARM... we talked about moving and jean decided she wanted to stay put for a while (well, forever as there is no way we could afford anything pinellas county has to offer right now) so no sooner had the ink dried then she wanted to move.
Not really... but it is oh so tempting. Our house is small, oddly designed, too many doors... jean wants 10 acres with a manufactured home which I tried to sell her on before, but nope... she wants it now.
MOVE! Do it! Don't refi the house or you will feel like you're stuck... at least hanging around long enough to justify the closing costs
