We have been discovering the new twists that come along with independent and fluent readers.
The parental notes and suggested tips that are sometimes included in books or say on activity pages can be fully read by the little people about to complete such a project.
Quite often when the suggestion involves glitter, we don't follow said suggestion. This isn't anything new for us. We don't ban glitter. We have plenty of glitter. But there is a time and a place for glitter and that was neither the time nor the place.
But now that she can read that glitter would take that project to the next level, the project was suddenly no longer appealing.
Carie and I also can’t spell a dang thing to each other anymore without some little miss knowing exactly what we are talking about. Our secret language is completely useless.
She also selected books over a toy at the store the other night. Except, she had already read the selected book, front to back, by the time we made it to the front of the store. Carie took her back to choose new books that would be more challenging for her. She looked up at Carie with a huge smile and told her how much she loved books. Then she managed to nearly get through those by the time we got home.
Who said they could grow up!?!?!?!?

Glad the reading is going so well. Reading is such a wonderful experience. Sucks, about not being able to spell in front of each other, that is how Karen and I communicate a lot, because the boy takes in everything,
What a little reader, that's great. Hope we are as lucky.
