The 5th Birthday Party - Friends Version
The Birthday celebrations have begun and the girls are beyond excited.
Their party was nice timing since preschool has been out just a week. Reuniting with their friends was as exciting as the reason they were all coming together.
We tried to walk the middle ground with planning their party. While we wanted it to be a Birthday celebration and we wanted it to be special, we also wanted it to be low key with more of a play date feel to it. In the end, I think we did pretty well at achieving our goal. It appeared that all the kids had a great time!
As we were preparing for their birthday party the sky let loose and down poured. This was all well and good except we were planning on having the kids swim. More importantly, the girls' have been looking forward to the moment that they could go swimming. Thankfully, the downpour was short lived and we moved on with our plans.
As kids arrived they migrated to the play area off our family room. Once everyone arrived we got started on our project - decorating their own party bags. We had white paper bags along with a plentiful supply of glitter glue, foam pieces, jewels, googly eyes, etc... As they were done adorning their bags with the decorations of their choice, they hopped into the swimming pool. I personally love listening to the laughter of kids really having a great time. They sure did have a great time splashing in the pool, even though it was on the cool side. Unfortunately draining the water heater a couple of times didn't make that much of a difference.
The party theme was Tinker Bell, complete with paper products that the kids don't really care about, blow outs & hats that were huge hits, and a piñata that they all loved.
After the project, swimming, cake and ice cream, gifts, and the piñata we had some free play time. We cracked open a relatively new game for us, Hullabaloo, and the kids had a riot. That game is so much fun! Oddly, Abby ended up "winning" several of the rounds. Though with each round after the winner took their bow we'd encourage everyone to do the winning funky dance.
The highlight of the afternoon had to have been watching Ellie & Evan playing the game together. They were either holding hands or holding onto each other. They moved from piece to piece in unison. They were one and it was amazing to witness.
It wasn't long before the parents began returning to pick up their kids.

Woo-hoo, Happy 5th Birthday to both of the girls! Wow, can you believe they are five?!
happy birthday abby and ellie, I can still picture them as newborns
