The 5th Birthday Party - Family Version
The 3rd and final installment of the 5th birthday party was this weekend. The girls' are officially 5; though Abby temporarily thought they should be 6 since they already celebrated their 5th birthday! But they ended up deciding that they were 5 again.
Saturday morning was low key and relaxing. Thank goodness! Saturday afternoon was filled with birthday celebration after birthday celebration.
We went out to grab a bite for lunch then Carie took Spencer home for his much needed nap while I took the girls' over to their friends house for a birthday party. It was her actual birthday day! They hung out, bounced like fools, and partied the afternoon away. I returned to the friend’s house to pick them up at 4:00 so we could get home to their very own birthday party that started at 4:00. We pulled up to our house just as several others were pulling up. Good timing!
We hung out, got settled, and when everyone arrived we started with cake and ice cream. Well, I think our kids just had frosting and ice cream. But cake was served! Great Grandma made her traditional German Chocolate cake and we made strawberry Tinker Bell cupcakes to supplement.
Then we gathered for gift opening with wrapping paper and tissue paper flying everywhere. The girls were excited about all the wonderful gifts they received. Thankfully a couple of their uncles (Chris & Mark) teamed up and began opening some of the items for immediate enjoyment.
Then they couldn't get their swimsuits on fast enough and in the pool the big kids went. They swam and swam and swam until we brought out plates of food to the kid picnic table. We had a brilliant plan of making the kids plates for them instead of them getting out of the pool and coming inside all wet to tell us what they wanted. There weren’t a lot of options anyways. We had a full meal, but simple meal. We had bbq ribs, baked beans, fruit salad, deviled eggs, cucumbers, and chips. They all cleaned their plates and then returned to water fun. I even blew up the water slide and they all gave that a whirl. Abby & Ellie aren't as thrilled with the water slide as I had hoped, but the older kids appeared to have a good time with it.
Then it was time to get them through the shower. I was on the scrubbing end and we just kept rotating kids in and out until they were all scrubbed up and jammied. We watched a kid show to wind down and then several folks hit the road and we got our three off to bed. They all had a long day and it didn't take long for them to fall asleep.
All in all it was a great day.

okay, a totally random comment... do you always refer to the girls as "abby and ellie" and not "ellie and abby"? Not sure why I thought of that, just one of those crazy things that pops into my head sometimes.
