Is how hold Spencer was when he was diagnosed with his 2nd ear infection and his 1st upper respiratory infection.
We've all felt like s**t this past week... congested and exhausted are the primary symptoms with some sore throats and coughing thrown in for good measure. Oh, and Spencer is definitely cutting a tooth! Sounds fun, eh?
Spencer seemed to be faring better than the rest of us, though he isn't sleeping worth a hoot. It's not like he's awake for hours on end but rather he's really restless and needy. We are in that vicious cycle where lack of sleep makes it harder TO sleep. He and Carie have been having daily battles at naptime. He is a bit congested, but he is eating normally. Imagine that. His mood has been pretty normal, especially after he has caved to some sleep. So, we figured that in time everything would clear up.
Carie called our Ped's yesterday to 1) make appts for flu shots and 2) ask if we could give him pediacare or some sort of decongestant to help him out.
Our beloved Ped's nurse said why yes you could. BUT, let me ask you this... how is he sleeping. Carie laughs and says well we've (meaning Carie) spent a good part of the past 2 nights on the couch and now I'm driving to try and get him to fall asleep. It had gotten pretty bad at home and they all needed a break, so even with the incredible gas prices they ventured out. The Ped's nurse response was hilarious and wonderful... something like "well that is nice of you but why don't you bring him in to get checked out". Unfortunately our Ped is out of the office on Thursday's so we saw our favorite back up Ped.
Turns out he has the very VERY early beginnings of an ear infection. So, we don't think that the behavior leading up to now was caused by any ear discomfort... so it would have only gotten worse. The upper respiratory infection diagnosis... I don't know. Maybe, but it seems like a traditional cold to us. Then again this morning was the first appearance of green gunk. It's neither here nor there as the antibiotic he's on for his ears will cover everything. His chest and breathing sounds excellent, no concerns for now.
I think they are treating his symptoms a bit aggressively, probably because they've seen a flood of it come through their office. Oh, and Spencer weighed in at 21 pounds and 10 ounces... fully clothed. So we are guessing his real weight closer to 21 pounds.
So it looks like we saved ourselves some sick days ahead of us by catching it really early. At this point, we'll definitely take it! Hopefully we can all recover this weekend and start out better next week.

glad you caught the early infection. poor Toby...he regularly gets salined and suctioned to ensure that he doesn't repeat the ear infection he got at 7 weeks. knock on wood for us....
Sorry you've been sick, but glad you caught it before it got worse! Hang in there!
Yeah we did some saline but there isn't anything to suck out. None of it seems to be IN his nose. He doesn't like it either, I might add. Doesn't seem that I would either.
His mattress is proped up a bit & we've got the vaporizor going. Actually there's a vaporizor in both his room and the girls' room. The whole upstairs gets kinda steamy at night.
But neither of the the last two do a dang bit of good IF he isn't in his room. LOL
