First Week of School

The first week of school has come and gone and we cannot believe it. How in the world are these girls old enough to go to school already? Okay, so it isn't Kindergarten, but it is still school.

The girls' attend a 3 year old pre-school Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri from 8:30 to 11:30. They are in separate classes with their own teachers and their own group of friends. While we Moms' were a bit worried about that in the beginning, we've grown excited about the idea. The girls are totally thriving while they are separated. It is so exciting to see them come together at the end of their school day. Not only do the Moms' get huge bear hugs, but they run and hug each other. They are momentarily inseparable.

We've already seen big changes this week. Getting up and out of the house isn't our cup of tea. But, everyone seems to be doing well with the new routine. We all are a bit more tired than usual, but I imagine our bodies will adjust in time. The girls' are going to bed earlier AND they are going to bed much better than they ever have. They are just plain tired!

We've also seen huge changes in their eating habits. We've been working really hard at proper meal time behavior and it finally seems to be clicking. Not only has their attention been more focused but they seem to have an appetite. Our once finicky eaters are now eating everything that comes in front of them. They've never been finicky about the food choices; they've just never eaten more than what seemed like nibbles of their food. At this rate, these girls may not maintain peanut status for a whole lot longer.

We've had an opportunity to get to know the teachers a bit and are thrilled with both of their teachers. We also really like the Speech Pathologist, but have yet to get to know the Para educators that are also in their classes.

After the first week all we've heard is praise on the girls' performance as mentor students. We are beyond thrilled and proud at how they've done this first week. Based on a couple of the notes sent home this week, we think the teachers will soon be blown away at the girls' abilities.
