Sleep Princess

Abby says to us, for the 3rd night in a row, "I don't want the Sleep Princess to come anymore." and for the 3rd night in a row we've been pulling out our hair at bedtime.

A little history on the "Sleep Princess". The sleep princess appeared on the scene about a couple of month's ago, again another time where we were pulling our hair out at bedtime. The girls' are into all things princess. They definitely didn't get their interest in princesses from their Mommy or Momma! But, we were able to convince them that if they went to sleep like grown up 3 year olds that the sleep princess would come visit them and leave them a surprise. It didn't work immediately. We didn't go from pulling our hair out to the ultimate bedtime. BUT, it did make an impact and over a relatively short time we experienced improvement. We, the moms', were quite thrilled. They really knew when they deserved to have the sleep princess visit and when they didn't. When the sleep princess visited she would leave $1 under their pillow. You would think the girls' hit the jackpot by their excitement in finding the dollar bill. Once the initial excitement wore off, the dollar would be set aside and forgotten about thus allowing us to recycle and re-gift the dollar the next morning.

Fast forward to now, the week before school starts when we are trying to get us all into a schedule conducive to getting us out of the house in the morning, on time to school, with rested children. No small task considering we are not a morning kinda family, we like our sleep.

So now Abby has decided that they do not need the sleep princess to visit anymore. They are ready for the sleep princess to visit other children. She seriously thinks that that gives her reign to not stay in her bed and go to sleep like a big girl.

Thank goodness we saw some improvement before we slipped back into old habits. That is what is keeping us going. We are certain that adjusting their bedtime and wake up time has definitely impacted us. Hopefully we'll all settle into this new routine quickly.

Please tell the Sleep Princess to come visit Milo tonight. More than one hour after putting him to bed, he's still sitting up on his bed, singing at the top of his lungs. It's nearly 9:30 now, so I feel for his preschool teacher tomorrow morning. Oh but wait, I should feel for MYSELF trying to get him out the door in the morning first. This staying awake for a long time at night has been getting worse for several days. Sleep Princess, where ARE you tonight?
