Happy 7th Birthday To My Two Favorite Girls

Kicking off the weekend birthday celebrations...

As requested, we started a fire and made s'mores. It was a great way to start our weekend! We also were more certain that we could pull this off on Friday night given the rain forecast for Saturday!

All the kids consumed enough sugar to last them a lifetime, but they had a blast.

We all sat around the fire until we heard "I'm tired" from the little people.

Saturday, the actual birthday day, we all slept in! That was an absolutely wonderful gift for us! It would have been even better if we weren't up until 1:30 am.

Spencer appeared in our room at 8:22 and asked "can I climb in between you?" to which he heard "absolutely!" So he snuggled in and fell right back to sleep. Pure bliss! A little while later we hear Abby calling for us. Mommy ran upstairs to her room to see what she needed only to find that Abby wasn't in her bed or her room. She had helped herself out of bed (2' off the floor... ugh!) and scooted herself all the way down the 3 sections of stairs (which PT has taught her to do) with a stop on the way to collect stuffed friends off of the fireplace in the great room. I should mention that in order to GET to her stuffed friends she had to navigate around their piles of b-day presents, her wheel chair, tubs of Geotrax, and all the items not yet put away from the hospital. Not an easy task! The reason she was calling for us??? She couldn't find the remote!!!

Once everyone was up we got right to the gift opening. Most of the items we had collected over a period of time and had them stashed away. But as we were putting the finishing touches on their b-day gifts we quickly decided that we couldn't, in our hearts, gift to them a couple of the key/chosen items... a Skip It and a Pogo Stick. They hadn't asked for these items recently but we thought they would really enjoy them.

Then suddenly, as we were sitting in the doctor's office at 3:00 on Friday afternoon we have a brilliant idea. On their way to the appointment Carie had stumbled upon a garage sale... a garage sale with an item of great interest that just happened to be in view from the street. So she stops and buys this cute vanity table for dirt cheap in the hopes that it will replace the plastic one that they currently have. She also scores some storage bins in the hopes to corral all the Littlest Pet Shop and Polly Pocket pieces that have long taken over their room. Abby sees these items and approves. Thankfully they weren't b-day related! But while she's buying these she also notices this other item that has great potential. Unfortunately she really has to get going and doesn't give it a second thought. She arranges to come back and pick up the table and storage bins she did purchase.

As we are sitting in the doctor's office Carie is telling me about this third item, however Abby is sitting right there and talking in code around either of the girls has become impossible. Somehow I think we pulled it off and humored Abby in the process. She thought she had it figured out (as she giggles) but she wouldn't ever tell us what she thought it was. As Carie is describing this item to me it suddenly hit the both of us that THIS was it... this was THE perfect birthday present. They have wanted this for a long time. We've researched the options before but we've always managed to successfully put it off. But now was the time.

So after the doctor's appointment I run off to a few stores to do a little bit more research while Carie takes Abby home and relieves our neighbor from the rest of the kids. Carie and I talk discuss options more over the phone and she does a fantastic job of talking in code on her end. She did so great that our neighbor friend was stumped! She was all "you girls are good!"

In the end we did end up scoring the item from the garage sale. It was in awesome condition, an incredible deal, exactly what we needed, and came with practically everything we needed. After all the kids were in bed Friday night we set out to clean it all up, get it setup and wrapped for Saturday morning.

And here they are waiting for the go ahead to unwrap it... (more about what "it" is coming soon)

I think the rest of the weekend didn't matter after they opened this. It was the perfect gift for them. They were beyond shocked, surprised, and thrilled.

But we did go out for dinner (not anything unusual lately!) at Red Robin... a favorite for them. We also went to Church Sunday morning and Sand in the City Sunday afternoon.
