Miracle

Miracle of all miracles... we discovered that we ARE able to enroll Spencer in the next session of swimming lessons! AND, on top of that, we were able to get the classes and the time slot that we preferred. I hope it works out as well as we think it will!

The girls have been enrolled in the next session for a couple of weeks and all was good with their class and time slot.

With Spencer though, it looked like he might not have been able to continue lessons this next session. He's been doing so great and he'd clearly be disappointed if he didn't get to continue. Last night he was so excited when they pulled into the parking lot and he couldn't wait to get in. He did have a moment of concern in the locker room where he suddenly was scared. But as soon as they were out near the pool he couldn't wait for his turn to get in. When it was their time to start class he walked right over and joined in so confidently.

His teacher has had a heck of a session this go around. There were only 4 kids in the class, 4 boys at that. I believe this was a first experience for 3 of the boys... all of which were on the young side. She did an awesome job of being patient and working with each of the kids. Another swim teacher was awesome and helped out on varying levels each week. We were incredibly impressed and thanked both of them so much. It was very interesting to see each of the 4 boys vacillate between being happy to go swimming to not wanting a single darn thing to do with swimming. Even last night one boy refused to get in until the last couple minutes of class. One thing is for sure, those boys had their teachers wrapped around their pinkies!

The kids received their progress reports and they all did great! We loved reading the comments for each one of them and they all have just a couple of things left to work on to pass their current level. To me this means that they have accomplished quite a lot and for that they ought to be proud! This next go around they can improve on what they know, work on the few skills that they are less confident with, and gain some confidence all around. Oh, and have FUN! That is most important to us.

I wasn't quite as impressed with the girls' teacher this time around. Nothing specific, just a gut feeling. It will be interesting to see who teaches their class the next time around! Spencer's teacher talked about how impressed she was and how rewarding it was to see him go from being so reluctant to being a fish in the water.

I'm looking forward to more family swim time this weekend.

Swim on!
